its very frightening to me. not in the radom paranoya sense but the fall out can be horrible bad. what are your thoughts of chances this can not be resolved peacefully. and how long do you think the south will or its citizens keep turning the other cheek?
I think North Korea knows that if it attacks South Korea again, South Korea will hit back. The North Korean regime wants to stay in power, but it will be at risk of defeat should there be a war and South Korean/US troops invade. They will come with better clothes and technology. North Koreans will see what they have missed. Only fear will stop some defecting. Meanwhile, China is selfish and would only intervene to stop American troops getting to the Chinese border. Therefore, the most likely outcome is htat most of North Korea would be unified with South Korea, but a small portion would be annexed by China.
South Koreans seem to be hungry for war, but war would certainly result in South Korean deaths. This may turn people against the war.
As for Americans, the war would be short, so the American government wouldn't have to worry about the impatient public turning against the war and the war becoming as unpopular as Iraq and Afghanistan.
Well, China is going to be the most affected by this, as refugees will come in hundreds of thousands across its borders, so they have a very legitimate concern.
I think no one is in favor of North Korea, the country is a joke, but the problem is how to resolve the situation.
I think people are hoping that with the hand off of power the regime will weaken or there will be opportunity for change.
But without chinese and Russian help I think a war there would be disastrous, and I think Americans need to stop over estimatting their military advantage, the sae thing was said about Iraq and Afghanistan .. and you see the situation there.
Technical superiority does not translate to victory if the opponent changes his strategies accordingly.
I think it will take a serious North Korean strike of sorts (either against South Korea or Japan) to start something, and I think they are not stupid enough to do that, as they saw what happened to Iraq when it invaded.
I think the middle east is much more worrysome and flamable, as no one really sympathizes with North Korea.
The Mulsim/Christian/Jewish conflict is much larger in scale and with far reaching consequences.
Israel's continued and complete disregard of any international convention or agreement is not making this any easier, but that discussion belongs elsewhere.
In short, I´m not worried about North Korea and I think the media is blowing this out of proportion.

What's being blown out of proportion? The gulags along the Chinese border have been documented by people who have defected. People live as slaves until death by starvation or execution because their family members said "Pee on socialism" or the "Great Leader" he is called, or perhaps they attempted to defect. In this instance the whole family is taken away, and generally those who defect don't wish to speak of family.
Try www.townhall.com or the Drudge Report for Jonah Goldberg's article on this hellhole. According to his article, women are sometimes forced into abortions, or forced to give birth to babies to watch them die because the infant is part Chinese, therefore "racially impure". Makes occupation of Afghanistan & Iraq look like the grand waste of time to me.
The North Koreans have suffered for too long because nobody bothered to help them, and I think that if we attempted to liberate the country, it wouldn't take long for us to succeed.
Plenty of countries disregard international law. Those who go on about Israel don't have so much to say about those countries, even though what some of those countries do is a lot worse than what Israel has done.
I mean the risk that N. Korea poses to the U.S. is bown out of proportion.
The way their people is made to live is revaulting, I know that. And they take international aid money that is meant to help with starvation and use it to build weapons and nuclear bombs.
But you can't go liberate N.Korea if the Chinese and the Russians oppose, that could throw the whole world into conflict, therefore it is very difficult to act on this militarily.
Regarding Israel, I hold them to a higher standard than most of the countries you may mention, because they are smart people who understand very well what it is to be persecuted, and I find they are more like us in terms of their education and civilization and way of thinking than any country I can think of in Africa or Asia that may be acting "worse".
I think America needs to stop sticking it's nose in the affairs of other countries and to stop giving aid to countries which are misusing it. They need to take care of their own, first and foremost and then they can worry about those suffering through natural disasters and the like. My fear is that they'll get involved here and drag other nations into it. That's exactly what happened in Afghanistan. Greece and other EU, UN and NATO members were forced to enter a war that had nothing to do with them, all because of their memberships in said organisations. There were 122 Greek soldiers in Afghanistan, as airport security and in other peaceful positions, but now, they're calling for more to be sent as combatants! Even the government is opposed to this. We have enough on our plate to take on another war because of America's meddling. But what seriously worries me about this is the possibility of a world war and nuclear combat. 2012 is getting closer. As for the conflict in the Middle East, I support Palestine.
I would love to see America involved in others' affairs...closer to home. How about instead of troops in Iraq & Afghanistan, nations whose majority of people don't share our ideas, stationing those troops along the Mexican border, sending back thousands of illegals who try to sneak through? Also using said troops to fight the drug cartels that are ruining provinces in that nation, driving away potential revenue from tourism & possibly more people to flee thru the U S border?
I never thought of helping Mexico, but I suppose it could be a step towards stopping these illegal immigrants, which is something about which I've thought alot. I'm sure there are plenty of things that they could do at home that would actually benefit their people instead of killing them.
If your talking Iraq or that's a hole intire different can of worms. Why hell, war whith North Korea on Americas part would actually be productive the way I see it. Unfortunately, let's consider nuclear technology which North Korea not only whith top secret investigations happens to have but alsow. Whith a comunist leadership alsow comes a high dislike of western society, which will result on increased economic ties whith Iran and China. But alsow, a hire valitality of misel chrisis we should have dealt whith North Corea long ago. In this case though, considering America shouldn't get involved at the present stage whith such a high risk I'm convinced war of some kind may hopefully be whith held or as last poster sed anexed to China which has strategic dominence.
